Orange BAFTA's '60 Seconds of Fame' Competition

NewBay Software was commissioned by Orange UK to design and develop a customized and interactive user generated video gallery for its '60 Seconds of Fame' BAFTA competition. 2007 marks the 10th anniversary of Orange's sponsorship of the BAFTA's. The Orange BAFTA video gallery can be viewed at http://www.60secondsoffame.co.uk.

Orange's '60 Seconds of Fame' is an innovative short film competition which challenges people to make a film on their phone or digital camera of 60 seconds in length, inspired by the theme 'celebration'. The initiative is being supported by the BBC and a judging panel will shortlist entries on a regional basis which will be broadcast in each region as part of the BBC 6 o'clock news. The public then gets to vote online to select the 15 regional finalists who all get to attend the BAFTA's. The overall winner, selected by the BAFTA panel, will be announced at the Awards Ceremony in February and will receive an amazing prize of a BAFTA award and also the chance of a lifetime to have their film broadcast as part of the Ceremony.

For this campaign, NewBay worked closely with Poke London and Moving Image Research (MIR) to design and develop an Orange branded online and mobile user generated video gallery incorporating the following customized features:
  • Registration and digital video uploading.
  • Web and WAP video gallery including community features such as commenting, rating and regional categorization.
  • Secure judging area, allowing the judging panel to shortlist entries.
  • Secure online public voting ensuring one vote per person.
  • Moderation tool to pre-screen all entries.
